This green woodpecker was digging for ants in the side of the horses' arena yesterday. The barn owls are sitting on their nest and we hear them whistling at night now. There are doves nesting in the beams of the hay store, and the black redstarts and sparrows are all busy nest building. The kestrel must be raising a family nearby as she is often seen hunting over our fields. |
The wild flowers have been amazing this year, with carpets of bluebells in the woods and along the verges, interspersed with pink campions.
Farmers have just made their first bales of silage, and our bottom field, rested all winter, should have a good crop of hay.
